The question no one want to answer.

It may be a bit bizarre to write about death because while most of us accept that we will eventually die  we do not want to talk, think or prepare for this eventuality. From time to time the question is asked on social media, What happens after death? I believe that there are many persons who are seeking an honest and truthful answer to this question.

Everyone knows that eventually we will either become food for the worms or be the contents of an urn. These realities, however, short changes life if it is the ultimate end of mankind. The seekers who are asking the question are clearly seeking answers because there is the belief that life does not end with death. There are many who are quick to point out that there is no proof to contradict that everything does not end at death.

Religion offers possible answers to this question and the answers provided by religious practitioners covers a wide spectrum. There is the belief that death is final and everything ends at death. There is the belief in reincarnation which essentially is that the man will return to live in another form. The monotheistic religions teaches that life continues in another realm and this may possibly be in bliss and utopia or in torment.

My personal take, as a Christian, on life after death I have written in two books (The God Fighters & The God Alternatives. available http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Prince-W.-Bradford/e/B00GM5OKR6).

Religion in itself is so bizarre that one commentator noted that the first murder that we have on record was over religion and that religion will be the cause of the last murder to be committed in the future.

Last December was probably the worst of Decembers in my life so far because I had to deal with the death of a number of close relatives. These were not person who had endured prolonged sicknesses, were in pain, were patients in hospitals or hospice or had allowed relatives to gather around to say goodbye. Their deaths were sudden and in one case violent.

I must take note of the answers given to the question on social media, What happens after death? For the most part the answer given was nothing or no one knows. This answer was rather comforting knowing that seven billion of us are alive on the earth  and if we live we shall all die and if we don't live then we are dead but no one can say for sure what will happen after death. The smarter persons commented that no one has ever return to tell. That answer may also true.

There was one group of persons who were particularly silent and those were the born again, Holy Ghost filled, saved and sanctified Christians. There is never a good answer to forward to mockers and skeptics but for some reason Christians are fearful of declaring their belief in heaven.

Modern science is relatively new when compared with religion which has been in existence for millennia. Modern science cannot measure the concepts that exist in the mind because science is about giving a possible explanation for what exist and possibly how it originated. Religion is based on a system of beliefs.

It will be interesting to learn when science finally provide a possible answer to the question, what happens after death? This will also provide a possible answer as to what purpose does life serve. There are persons who have devoted their lives to poverty and in the service of mankind. There are those persons who have expressed the desire to experience every pleasure and the best that can be experienced in life. All will come to an end at death but will that be the end?
